Canada’s top military commander attempted to deliver a message of reassurance to Ukrainians on Thursday that NATO remains a stable, vital force despite turmoil and criticism — most of it from the Trump administration.
The part of NATO that isn’t USA remains reliable.
But it is no secret that every NATO country is seeking other ways to ensure military safety around USA. EU hase made the SAFE pact, ehich Canada and Japan have joined.
UK too is working towards greater European cooperation and independence, leaving only Turkey somewhat in limbo.
But if needed the political will throughout the countries that were allied with USA is undoubtedly strong to find other ways to cooperate to continue to work for an international law based order, which fortunately China has also expressed their desire to continue.
So that leaves Russia and USA out of the new global order, which will probably be determined by EU and China together with allies.
It will then be up to China to reign in Russia and North Korea, but the messaging from China is promising in the face of USA deciding to disrespect international law, and threatening even allies like Canada and Greenland/Denmark with invasion.NATO is basically dead, with NATO operations defaulting to American leadership, it is hard to see how NATO can function without USA. And with USA as a rogue country, USA cannot be the military leader of NATO anymore.
We in Europe are very grateful to Canada for remaining on the right side of the illegal Russian war against Ukraine. And EU and Canada can certainly work together to make a better future for both than when USA was dominating global policies.
Canada is a smaller, but definitely much better partner than USA has been for decades. Since Bush USA has definitely not been a force for supporting democracy and freedom, before that we believed it, even if it maybe wasn’t really true.PS:
I wonder where Turkey is in all of this? They have been awfully quiet about USA threatening NATO countries, and engaging in illegal wars.PPS:
In hindsight the 9/11 attack was more successful than I could have ever imagined. Because that started the US mindset and rhetoric that Bush expressed as: “You are either with us or against us.” And it resulted in the Afghan and Iraq war, because fuck anyone who tries to oppose USA, and now USA has gone so far, that it is impossible to be with them anymore.I wonder where Turkey is in all of this?
