Yes, but we also should avoid just building monopolies like in the US. There will be no gain to just replace one tech overlord with another.

        The future is open source.

Which I think is largely what you’re seeing happen. France’s national options are all built on open source for example.

The main issue with AWS and GCP and Azure is they’re effectively a triopoly controlled by the Americans.

We need to dump a fat stack into a plurality of providers, ideally operating as national champions.

Something atop of OpenStack maybe. But OpenStack seems bloated as fuck.

Overall agree but “The market” created this problem. We cannot rely on it to solve it.

We need open standards, and lowering the barriers to entry, not creating “the European Google” or “the AWS of France”.

A book vaguely related to the topic is “the internet con” by Cory Doctorow. He explains how google and aws didn’t just “happen” but are a product and the beneficiary of a process of erosion of antitrust laws.

Gvt departments are pushing their contractors (I mean companies that win RFPs here, not individuals) to use Teams like they do so they could have more seamless messaging

Ain’t nobody ditching Microsoft here :/ even “if needed”.

If any of this actually comes close to happening, Microsoft is going to bribe so many government officials and make sales deals with super cheap contracts. But I wish them luck.

Well if it weren’t for the trainings time for employees all European countries should dump microslop. At least for public services.
