This game has been on my radar since its initial announcement, but I’ve been on the fence because I was worried it was just a Mario game without Mario.
But after watching the direct a little bit ago, I’m convinced this game is going to be a pinch of Mario, a pinch of Zelda, and just a whole bucket of fun.
REALLY excited to pick this up day of release.
When I saw the previews earlier this spring I was like… “that looks neat”. Like in a "I’m gonna wait and maybe pick it up in a year kind of way.
This Direct probably sold me a switch 2 this weekend. I was already looking at MKW with a bit of envy but now I’m kind of feeling like “fuck it, the family doesn’t reaaaaaally need groceries next month right?”
It basically looks like DK Galaxy/Odyssey but the gameplay looks pretty solid. I am honest the whole Pauline as the little sibling coop character role feels like it could be better served by Diddy Kong. I also don’t like her design either though. I guess they wanted a character to be able to speak for DK.
I am really excited! To the point that I kinda wish I didn’t watch it for spoilers. My daughter was already excited for it from the first trailer so I knew I was going to get it anyway. Really happy about the 2-player and assist modes as well. I will keep the direct video a secret from my daughter so she won’t be spoiled, but I’ve already watched it twice myself lol
Kinda looks like a Rareware game, although maybe I’m just making that connection because I played Donkey Kong 64 as a kid.
If Donkey Kong doesn’t have a rap in this game I’m going to riot
Totally didn’t have Donkey Kong: Hollow Earth on my Nintendo innovation bingo card. Might have to pick up a Switch 2 if we’re all still alive after the holidays.
Nintendo seems to be in their Lost World/Hollow Earth phase with games like ToTK and the most recent pokemon games.
It’s pretty crazy how much different types of gameplay they packed into this. They could have easily stopped at just the environment destruction and called it a day.
I’m just glad to see they brought back “Oh, banana”
It was the same for me! I thought it looked interesting from what we had seen before, but I wasn’t convinced. It looked like the concept was fun, but there wouldn’t be enough to keep you entertained for long.
After watching the Direct, I’m definitely getting this on release day too! I also got some Zelda vibes, like I could spend a lot of time exploring the different stages (as I do in BotW and TotK).
That Mario Artist like mini-game with the sculptures looks like a fun time sink!
Does DK finally have a chance at Mario’s ex?
Apparently Pauline is 13 in this game so… let’s hope not.
Wait, is there a multiverse of Paulines now?
This is going to be so good.
After basically going all of 2024 with the Switch 1 winding down its life cycle it’s fun to see new games again.
Same here. While I was originally interested just because of DK (I like him as a character), after watching the direct (well, skimming the first 5 mins of the direct, since I prefer to go in as blind as possible) I am really excited about the game, and plan to get it day 1!
I cannot wait to play Pauline of the Kongdom: Odyssey. Was really uninterested in this before but I’ll probably get a used copy now.
Pauline of the Kongdom
It’s not my kink, but I know a few folks that would enjoy that.
Was a great showing! I was already on board because I dig the destruction angle. I still have some minor misgivings with some of the art direction.
But overall this presentation kept hitting with feature after feature. I hope (and semi-expect) it’s not a case where they’ve already shown most everything about the game though. Looking forward to playing next month!
Definitely looks interesting. I probably won’t buy it on day one, but it’s a strong chance I’ll get around to playing it eventually.
I don’t think I’ve actually played a mainline DK game since the SNES days, now that I think about it.
