Putin claimed this week that “the entire West” was providing Ukraine with “a massive flow of drones” aimed at destabilizing society.
Honestly, the Russian propaganda version of “the entire West” sounds pretty based. If Putin’s gonna act like our hype man, we should our best try to live up to expectations.
Taking people’s savings without their permission would start a run on the banks, surely? If your money is safer under the mattress…

Your money isn’t safe in a mattress. Gold - real physical gold is safe under your bed if you can get it. It need not be gold, but that is something real, expensive enough that you put it under your bed (your life savings in iron probably wouldn’t fit in your house), and likely to have value in a few years. Russian money is subject to inflation in the best case - in the worst cases various countries have done things to cash and you couldn’t trade yours in anymore.
I hope so. Eventually some Russian smart with the means and the skill might force Putin’s early retirement.
I just fear that person will be just as bad as Putin.
The next person could always be just as bad, but not being him would be a good start. My expectation is that they would get as much political mileage as possible out of how bad Putin fucked things up, playing the hero and cleaning up his mess.
As usual Putin will do more war crimes while claiming Russia is fine, and winning …any day now.
