Loops vs. PeerTube for video host
Hey friends, I’m thinking of starting up an ActivityPub compatible server to host and share my own train videos with the Fediverse, and wondering: Of the two video-oriented softwares, which would be a better fit for my use case and easier to work with? The videos would be between 15 seconds and 10 minutes long.
Comparisons, pros and cons, and your experiences working with either would be appreciated. Thanks. @fediverse
For short videos, loops. Longer videos peertube.
You could also do both! :D
I believe loops only allows up to 3 minutes
Hmm, good question, I do have an account on both platforms. I feel like Loops is more tiktok Like. Peertube is made to be an alternative to YT.
It depends on the target group you want to reach. Loops used more standup shot videos while peertube mostly 16/9 vids.
In terms of users I believe peertube is somewhat larger but that might be my perception so take that with a grain of salt.
Both is the answer. Most people will flip past a 10 minute short-form video. Just like the TikTok/Youtube sitution, edit some things to be vertical and short, and post those to Loops. Include a link in your profile to your Peertube, and let the short videos direct people who like your stuff to your longer horizontal videos.
Loops if you want to post exclusively vertical videos. PeerTube if you want to post horizontal ones too
How about you have a look at some public instances, scroll through some content, watch a few videos and see which one you like better from a user perspective? I mean technically, they both work. Setup of an instance is just done once, and I guess uploading videos has about the same complexity… So it’s down to what interface you like, and where you’d find your audience.
