The global perception of the United States has fallen for a third consecutive year, now ranking several spots behind Russia, a survey commissioned by the Alliance of Democracies Foundations revealed on May 7.

In contrast, Ukraine held a positive global perception score, finishing with +9 in 62nd place among countries surveyed, far behind its Western allies Switzerland and Canada, which tied at the top with a score of +36.

Makes sense. Anyone who had a positive view of Russia is already in support of them being horrible, while the international activities of the US have gotten a lot worse since the election. The current government isn’t going to fulfill any of what might have given anyone a positive outlook on its foreign or domestic policy, while those who have some political incentive to be pro-Russia aren’t suddenly going to change their mind just because the US is acting more like them.
It won’t get the administration’s attention, but hopefully the drop in international popularity is embarrassing enough that people might vote differently in the midterms and in 2028. It seemed to make a difference when George W was in office.
