I think the difference is that while other services boom and bust, the fediverse keeps growing slowly because it is decentralized, and can’t be enshittified in the same way.

I have family from Kansas and Colorado, who worked the wheat harvests going from north Texas through to the Dakotas and eastern Montana. When I was visiting Alsace with my family, we witnessed a stereotypical interaction between the loud English speaking Americans and the French hotel staff, and neither could communicate well, and both were frustrated. My family was next in line, and the hotel staff looked at us like, “oh God, what’s next,” but when we started talking to them in French they melted. They were so happy that we could communicate easily, and were so much more relaxed.

I thought it makes the game tick faster or slower, such that you have to have it set correctly or it’s unplayable.

I hear the youths are using ChatGPT like we used Google when we were their age, but they must be way better than I am, because when I ask it things I don’t already know, sometimes it gives me truth and sometimes lies.
