If disk space is a problem, why don’t more instances delete old stuff? 99% of what’s posted doesn’t need to be archived forever.

Oh, is that what everyone’s reacting to? Just the headline? Yeah, weird that so many people were not previously aware of the basic facts of life.

Michel Mayor, Nobel laureate in physics, discusses important questions such as “dude, wouldn’t it be cool if we could send people to live on other planets on the far side of the galaxy?” and “if there are aliens, what do you think they’re like?”

If they make the fediverse illegal, then it will be illegal. There’s not much that can be done about it. Obviously we cannot do “age verification.”

It would look really bad, politically, so they probably won’t go that far right now — they’ll just slowly push things in that direction until it seems feasible.

Finland wins again!

Much as people would like them to, both upvotes and downvotes mean very little. I learned this on reddit but it seems equally true here.

On my fediverse accounts:

• I don’t have autoplaying media (and I do have noscript)
• I don’t have infinite scroll (although it’s an option)
• There is no “for you” feed based on tracking my behaviour
• I view things sorted chronologically
• I usually see only things posted or boosted by people (or groups) I chose to follow
• I don’t get notifications when someone “likes” things or whatever

And yet somehow it is addictive enough, whereas Facebook and Reddit made me angry enough to quit them forever.

That’s why the DNA for all my clones is meticulously transcribed by hand by the children in my sweatshops in Sri Lanka. They’re given every motivation to be accurate.

As you seem to appreciate, 95% of the time matrix is exactly what’s needed. People seem to hate it because it’s slightly different than discord, but anything that isn’t discord is going to have that problem. It also has other problems, but at least it’s not as bad as fucking discord.

I don’t know, you’re probably more likely to find Akkoma instances these days. It’s pretty similar.

It is not, so far as I know, an “extra network.” It’s one of many types of instance on the fediverse. Many of them have features that do not perfectly interoperate with others. The more popular ones eventually get to be widely supported as things evolve. Mastodon is not the standard, it’s just one among many.

Also, you’re a lemmy user. It’s one of the worst when it comes to interoperating smoothly with the rest of the network.

I don’t actually know anything about it, was just going on vague memories of stuff I read on a some blog post years ago. Although “since Morrowind” is a long way from the beginning. I hope they’re all having a great time doing that tinkering.

Given the unreasonably large amount of money that Skyrim brought in I guess Todd is planning something really expensive and large-scale. These things do take time, and they’ve been busy doing other things. The disaster that was Fallout 76 for example wasn’t anywhere near finished until well after its official release date, and then Starfield was just a couple of years ago. Maybe they can learn from the past?

Unfortunately I think the odds are against TES6 being as good as we’d hope for. Even before the acquisition, most of the people who made The Elder Scrolls what it was have long since left the company. But you never know, I guess. Maybe we’ll get super lucky and it will turn out like Skyrim: Huge potential, fundamentally flawed but fixable by modders.

It’s hard to guess why you’re dissatisfied with blahaj.zone. Far as I know it still has a good reputation.

Most of the “microblog” posts I’m seeing are pretty short. I seem to remember the images being way too big, though. I made a custom ublock rule or something to make both the lemmy ones and them equally small thumbnails just big enough to decide if I want to load a full-sized one. It’s kept working for a year or something, I had forgotten it was there, but I guess it helps even more now.

Edit: Ah, found it. It’s a firefox/librewolf userContent.css thing. Maybe something similar could be an mbin user configurable option some day.
