

My guess is that it’s probably because holding off keeps it in the media longer. If it’s scarce you’ll get 50 different articles talking about how shelves are empty of X console, and a much bigger problem is if you accidentally overbuild, and you realise the demand isn’t actually there. Though on the other hand, standard marketing would imply that you want as little friction as possible between the customer and buying your product, so I’m not sure.
Depending on the task it can significantly improve the quality of the output, but it doesn’t help with everything. It’s more useful for stuff that has to be reasoned about in multiple iterations, not something that’s a direct answer.
