Also the main problem here is that security has been shit for years because the result of any security incident anywhere by-and-large been a “not my problem” situation for the companies hacked.

I have been following this and apparently was able to get a root shell on the VM, which is wild.

or as it’s known in the rest of the world, “ignorant”

“Nuance for thee but not for me!”

Cal was on Better Offline recently and towards the end of the interview he was talking about a need for some sort of structured language for interacting with LLMs for purposes of code gen that could remove the ambiguity of natural language and my only thought on it was “my guy, you are describing a programming language but with extra baggage.”

s/gpu/Butt-Face Chester Cheeks/g and you got yourself a deal.

“The year is 2040. Everybody has access to a Butt-Face Chester Cheeks. What happens in this butt-business as usual future?”

yeah, the only idea left is “insert as much financial friction that is tolerated between people and the things they use in their lives”.

“everything is camera” is this decade’s “shove a bluetooth in there”

Wow, I watched 15 minutes from 45:00 and it’s just like… wtf. The guy is old, younger, mustache, no mustache, sets a gun down and then pulls another gun out of thin air, sometimes the gun it’s a double barrel side x side, sometimes it’s an over-under, sometimes a muzzle loader… The candles, wtf is up with the candles? The dog is remarkably consistent but the mouth doesn’t move right and it’s just a horror show. The cave setting changes…

Yeah, it’s just so fucked up.

I got to 47 seconds and there’s a guy driving a tent stake with a mallet that isn’t quite there, only to have the mallet disappear.

“So you printed out a piece of the internet for us to throw away.”

Oh yeah, I saw the author post this. The argument appears to be “blow 40% of the Norwegian Pension Fund’s current value on OpenAI, because democracy?” and then goes on to paint opposition to datacenters as a “you will be left behind” move. Just absolutely dumb stuff all around.

Counterpoint: LOL no.

Well, glad to see my sense of novelty is not burnt out because that’s just a what-the-fuck of what-the-fucks.

eyes copy of ANSI Common Lisp written by Paul Graham

maybe, but SBCL succumbed to the siren song of slop, who knows what will be next.

just heard the term “valuemaxxing”. Kill me.

sitting in a work presentation around linkedin link on agentic use levels. It’s fucking dumb. Nobody reviews shit and it seems like the whole org is getting dumber.

Apparently he made a MUD with a graphical interface sometime around 2001 and then added microtransactions into it some time before 2022, and supposedly his magical friends Claude, Claude Claude, Claude, and Claude (I forget the names he actually gave his instances, it’s all various insects) will help him turn Wyvern into a billion-dollar company.

Edit: he didn’t name all his instances after insects but like that ever fucking matters. It’s just ongoing dillusion.

Have you looked at Wyvern on Steam? The reviews are either positive one liners all saying approximately the same thing or like incredibly detailed negatives. This is Yegge’s billion-dollar company - a pay-to-win MUD.

Also hilarious if there really is at least one person who has spent over a grand in-game as Yegge claims.

At first I was wondering why everyone was talking about the guy from “Freddy Got Fingered” but that’s Tom Green. Anyways, glad the propane and propane accessories guy is taking a break from AI.
