That’s the point. The US government is doing subversion by way of contraindication and sowing confusion. Kremlin would be proud, if it weren’t for the whole Putin thing.

I’m not saying it’s intentional, at least not fully (since some of it is due to the current US government being led by literal idiots), but the idea is simple: to destroy democracy, you need to make it irrelevant.

You train the constituency to become disenfranchised and so burned out from the political process that the government can eventually do whatever the heck they want without reproach.

This is also evident by how much the Trump administration has tried to push various government bodies off of their balance, with a mixed bag of successes and failures.

This coupled with the subversion of the fifth estate, placating to white supremacists, isolationists and traditionalists, forms a power coalition of the stupid, angry and disheveled that helps to facilitate this circus. Welcome to the “tea-party”/“alt-right” movement. It’s not about owning the libs, but destroying democracy.

But yes, despite what the government may have said, there was really no plan to leave or even ignore NATO, because a shit ton of the US’s soft power comes from it, and the US government has probably behind the scenes assured various bit players within the government that they wouldn’t ever leave NATO.

This is because a definite leaving of NATO would most likely trigger a top secret CIA clause whereby both Trump and Vance would fall out of a window, only to tumble down jagged flights of stairs into a container filled with broken glass.

The big thing about this government is hiding this method of subversion behind “the art of the deal”, that is they seek to mislead and confuse you as much as you possibly, to rub out your agency and to make you feel powerless as well as stupid and to lay your head gently in to the lap of your Lord and savior, Donald Trump.

Again, the Kremlin would be proud.
