Hey there! Are you a fan of classic, intense and borderline overwhelming real-time strategy games like StarCraft or Age of Empires?
If so, then welcome to @rts@fedia.io, a brand new fediverse community for fans of the real-time strategy (RTS) game genre!
I hope this will be a great place on the fediverse to talk about all things RTS games–be it news, strategy, memes, game design, modding, reverse engineering, or what have you.
What’s more, in addition to this fediverse community I’ve also just set up a brand-new Matrix space, #realtime:matrix.org, for real-time discussion and matchmaking for various games (with each game having its own subspace and plenty of room for null
That’s !rts@fedia.io and #realtime:matrix.org!
See you there!
More RTS to the people.
I grew up with StarCraft and later got into more in-depth strategy games like Europa Universalis and Stellaris. I’ve been building a persistent multiplayer 4X steampunk RTS called Border Empires where everyone shares the same planet and the game keeps running while you’re away.
Even though it’s designed to be idle, you’re constantly choosing where to focus your limited resources. Once they run out, you can only watch what the other players are doing — and wait too long and you might have to fight for the resources you could have claimed first.
There’s still a lot of work to do and every step forward mostly seems to reveal how far the game still has to go. =D
If world domination is for you, I’m constantly looking for more testers: https://discord.gg/BU6hWKbKp
Sounds like that should be a successful community. Dune 2 was a major classic that I used to love. I’m kinda too old for RTS’s anymore, but you might share these free versions with your community. They play right in browser…

Isn’t that what became Zero-k?
Nope, Zero-K is much older than BAR. I believe zero-K got “full release” in like 2017, 2018 and BAR is still under active development.
No, they’re 2 distinct games that are spiritual successors to Supreme Commander.
Dune 2 was a major classic that I used to love.
I am partial to Dune: The Battle for Arrakis.
Huh! Was that a sequel?
(god, this stuff was so long ago!)
Looks like we are talking about the same game.
Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty (titled Dune II: Battle for Arrakis in Europe and Dune: The Battle for Arrakis in North America for the Mega Drive/Genesis port, respectively) is a 1992 real-time strategy game developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Games.
Brilliant game, thank you.
Age sucks, lol.
I was thinking you were talking about Dune 2000. I never did play that one.
Yeah, I had that one too. IIRC it was an upgraded version with cool live-action cut scenes. John Rhys-Davies was one of the main actors.
Oooh, yes please!! I hope there’s lots of B.A.R. 😍
I started !bar@discuss.tchncs.de a looooong time ago and I’m not seeing any BAR content there, at least for right now.
I’m glad to see you still are around, I’ll subscribe to that and save your comment, sometimes i worry if the posts are years old if the community is unmoderated. If I get into BAR again, maybe I’ll post.
That was my problem too. I moved on to other games. I’ll get back to BAR at some point, but for right now, not my main game.
Oh wow, I missed this! Sweet

I see. (Damn search sometimes…)
Subbed! Maybe I didn’t need to make one after all… though at least it doesn’t seem like there’s much RTS presence on Matrix. (Or at least that I can find, Matrix search is even worse…)
