I wholeheartedly agree. Having a good idea for a community is very easy, but putting in the legwork over the years to draw an audience is very hard. There isn’t some brilliant idea you can have to jumpstart participation with a good name and sidebar, you actually have to show up every day and put in the effort.
I’m definitely with you on that.
One of the points of these posts, I hope, will be that we will find people with the same interests. So that instead of doing everything themselves, they can have a partner(s) to help carry the load.
Oh yeah, for sure. I’m a bit of the belief that the 1-9-90 rule means that as we expand the 1% that are actively posting, the commenters and lurkers will follow, so I think these efforts to empower new folks to create and run a community are a great idea and effort, and getting folks to feel like they’re not alone is a good way to make that more accessible.
