I’m no expert, but it looks like much of that damage is fire - the internal upholstery is lying in ashes at the bottom rather than being scattered, the paintwork is all burned off. I’m assuming he was badly hurt, but managed to pull himself (or was pulled out) of the vehicle before most of the damage happened.

Anyway - lying in ICU spending the last of his days in agonising, crispy condition sounds much worse than a quick death. There is some justice in the world.
