SSU hit a Russian submarine in Novorossiysk

The Security Service of Ukraine conducted another unique special operation and arranged maritime “bavovna” in the port of Novorossiysk. For the first time in history, “Sub Sea Baby” underwater drones blew up a Russian Project 636.3 “Varshavyanka” class submarine (NATO classification — Kilo). As a result of the explosion, the submarine sustained critical damage and is, in effect, disabled.

On board the submarine were four cruise missile launchers for “Kalibr” missiles, which the enemy uses for strikes on the territory of Ukraine.

This was a joint operation of the 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the SSU and the Navy.

The cost of a “Varshavyanka” class submarine is about 400 million US dollars. Given the introduced international sanctions, the construction of an analogous submarine may currently cost up to 500 million dollars. This class of submarines is also known by the name “Black Hole” due to the hull’s ability to absorb sounds and remain stealthy to sonars.

We remind you that the blown-up boat was forced to stay in the port of Novorossiysk due to successful special operations of “Sea Baby” surface naval drones, which forced Russian ships and submarines out of the Sevastopol Bay in temporarily occupied Crimea.

It looked like there were a lot of warship targets in the footage.

I’m sure there was a good reason why that particular sub was targeted, “four cruise missile launchers for “Kalibr” missiles” aside.

Subs are hard to find normally so if you see one it is automatitally a high priority to get it even if you reveal some secrets you don’t want them to know (like you can monitor their harbor?). also this sub was launching missles at Ukraine, the other ships were not as useful

True, but there were at least 2 other subs in the footage, so there must have been some reason why this particular submarine was targeted in favor of the others.

This sub was equipped to launch missiles. It is unlikely Ukraine would say why this one.

Could be the only had the ability get one (that is only one sub sea baby), and it was random chance. Could be they could bypass the protections on this while the others were protected by something (sea nets, sonar…) they didn’t think they could get by. Those are two obvious ones I can think of (and thus assume Russia knows more than me if either is possibly true). There may be a completely different reason I can’t think of though - again I would expect Ukraine not to say (of if they say it might be an incorrect misdirection)
