This sentence from the article should have been the headline:

“A new undersea cable project is set to link Bulgaria, Georgia, Turkey, and Ukraine without passing through Russian waters.”

And here is some main paragraphs:

The new Kardesa route, expected to begin construction in 2027, would establish a new digital corridor between Europe and Asia, one that avoids the political and physical vulnerabilities of existing systems.

Currently, the Submarine Cable Map shows only one cable crossing the Black Sea between Georgia and Bulgaria, with others connecting nearby states but still touching routes influenced by Moscow.

“Internet safety”. This is just the great east-west internet firewall dressed up as safety.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not some russia shilling tankie, but if this leads to completely separating cultures, what chance do we have of ever improving relations?

How did you come to that conclusion? Isn’t it actually better to have more routes available? Decentralization is always a plus in my books at least, specially considering how easy it is to disrupt worldwide communication with a single point of failure

It’s only the way you describe if Russia decides to cut communication lines to the rest of the world a la North Korea. What exactly would be your proposal for us to stop Putin from doing this, because it’s not anyone’s decision but his.
