      If they want to protect the place from people on the outside, yes, it might be worth a try ;-)

        Oh. Hah. Presumably this is influenced by Greek theatres, right? I underestimated the cultural exchange that would’ve happened.

          Possibly? I’m no expert in the history of theatres, but it seems intuitive that the Anglo-Saxons would’ve seen old Graeco-Roman theatre ruins in Britain and used that as a template.

          On the other hand, it’s a pretty simple design - may just be convergent evolution, or whatever the architectural equivalent is.

            It’s also close to the little back house of the residence. Maybe the king steps out there to make speeches?
