North Macedonia's Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has again questioned the need to amend the country's Constitution to include Bulgarians, arguing that the Bulgarian community numbers only around 3,000 people according to the latest census. “We are not talking about 300,000 or 3 million, we are talking about 3,000 citizens,” Mickoski said in an interview with the Atlantic Council.

He also challenged the human-rights argument behind the demand, saying politicians should not be responsible for determining whether a community’s rights have been violated. He pointed to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and the Council of Europe as the institutions responsible for assessing such issues.
