I don’t believe it’s federated, but there’s also the Hardcover App that posits itself as a Goodreads alternative.

5·25 days agoOn the other end of the spectrum are post descriptions that copy the entire article and you’re met with a giant wall of text. It’s about curation, folks!

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Let's talk about clickbait and sources when postingEnglish
19·25 days agoHard agree. I tend to ignore posts that only provide a link and nothing else.
At the very least highlight something of the text in the post description that is worth reading to create a discussion, and then give us your two cents in the comments.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•What Eddy Burback got wrong about his phone... [Discussion of Fediverse as an alternative within]English
8·11 months agoI loved his video, but there were some pretty key actions that he could have done to reduce his phone usage, e.g., limiting/deleting his social media apps, reviewing/turning off his notifications, or setting Focus times to limit distractions during productive times of the day.
Fun experiment overall, but I wasn’t expecting any new revelations on attention spans from a comedian.

Nintendo@lemmy.world•Nintendo Shuts Down Live-Action Zelda Fan Film, 'Lost In Hyrule'English
491·1 year agoIt was a possibility that the team was always braced for. “This is Nintendo’s IP and if they decide to halt our production, we will” […]
Nintendo did them a solid shutting down production before any money transferred hands.
The entire concept of starter Pokémon was a very late idea which went through several iterations before arriving at the concept we know from the final games.
It always amazes me when these kinds of iconic tropes are developed as an afterthought.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•How to follow newspapers on mastodon without being spammed?English
1·2 years agoSimilarly I used to follow news groups on Mastodon, but found I was missing stories in-between my other follows. I ended up switching to RSS readers like Inoreader to handle my reading instead.
I know it’s answer-adjacent, but I hope that helps.

Whenever I’m in too deep in an online argument I’m comforted by the wise words of one Rick Sanchez:
