Nothing against Mbin, but how would it help with the AI moderation issue? From what I understand about the AI moderation, it was a group of mods that sent a user’s history into a model for analysis. That will still be possible with Mbin, and anywhere else
No problem! I can confirm that we received a verification from a University of Toronto email address.
I’m seeing some reports on this post from people who are suspicious about its legitimacy. It looks to be the same format as other Canadian university studies I’ve seen, and the fediverse is the right place to find people for such a study. To me it looks legitimate.
Maybe I can do a verification from the admin side? If you can send us an email from your institution account to support@lemmy.ca, I can leave a comment confirming that you are indeed from UofT.

The benefit is that the other microblogging platforms might also implement or improve threadiverse support if this goes well. We could get more activity and users from the people who are only on a microblogging platform
I agree, rather I was surprised that threads grew big enough for people to be trying to migrate away from it.
In my area / friend circles, I don’t know anyone that continued to use Threads after the initial launch. However, there are people using Mastodon, Bluesky, and Twitter

It’s hard to tell what was wrong with that post without seeing it. At the same time, we’re not a hive mind. People will disagree from time to time :)

I’ve seen this complaint from other new users. Is there something wrong with a lack of an official app? Would it be an ok compromise for the official project to recommend some third party apps?
A lot of these projects don’t have the capacity (yet) to develop an official app on top of the main platform.
As for the recommendations
These are harder, or there’s not as much motivation for them. The projects are still going, but they’re slower:
Facebook: a lot of people dropped Facebook completely without replacing it with anything. The only real value is private groups and buy/sell tools, of which the first can be replaced with chat platforms and the second already has a patchwork of proprietary alternatives depending on where you are
LinkedIn: network effect is extreme with this one since it depends on where everyone else in your field of work is hanging out. Some fields don’t use LinkedIn at all already
Amazon: I don’t see the benefit of having a fediverse version of this? Building tools that independent stores can use to stay competitive might be better
Spotify: Funkwhale exists, but there are some concerns around piracy. Other options are self hosting or using one of the many other proprietary streaming platforms

I didn’t catch the previous post and gave it a quick skim now. My thoughts are more to do with how LLM based moderation is viewed by users.
It’s not a new thing, since sentiment analysis based moderation has been around for a long while. Where it becomes a problem is
I also don’t agree with the privacy angle since all content here is public by nature, but I do see value in discussing these other problems since that’s what this community is for?
Also, while Rimu can defederate, letting people discuss it first is better. Best case scenario, the groups find some kind of compromise. Otherwise it lets people weigh in on the platform policies and federation status, instead of having admins make that call on their own
