Fediverse@lemmy.world•Fedicon 2025 is currently taking place. All the videos are being posted in this PeerTube accountEnglish
17·4 months agoFedicon is just a protocol. You can give/attend a talk wherever/whenever you want. I went outside and gave a talk about peanuts to some crows. Best Fedicon ever.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Kagi (paid search engine): "Peertube results now show up in regular searches, plus you can filter by "source" to see more Peertube content."English
2·7 months agoI’m out here trying to answer reasonable questions techie folks might have about the most promising possibility I’ve seen so far for getting our normie families off of Google.
What are you here for? Calling people naive pseudo-scammers? Get out of here.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Kagi (paid search engine): "Peertube results now show up in regular searches, plus you can filter by "source" to see more Peertube content."English
41·7 months agoThere’s a link in the second paragraph to the technical details, including source code for the implementation and documentation for the required infrastructure.
But the tl;dr is that the tokens aren’t associated to your account. Unless you were able to snoop on the original request that generated the tokens (in which case, you’ve got bigger issues!), there’s no way to prove that a token is related to a specific account. A token only proves that an authorization server once granted access to some account.
Edit: Wikipedia has a good intro:
Non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs are cryptographic primitives, where information between a prover and a verifier can be authenticated by the prover, without revealing any of the specific information beyond the validity of the statement itself.
Edit 2: You should not be catching downvotes. You had a reasonable question.

113·7 months agoFine for you. I’m just glad there’s an option besides “sell your soul” and “invest hundreds of hours and dollars into self-hosting”.

“Mastodon: Victory Through Technical Superiority”, available soon on Laserdisc and Betamax
Meanwhile Nintendo in the 1980s:
Yokoi’s most enduring contribution may have been his product philosophy, often translated to the almost luddite-sounding ‘lateral thinking with withered technology.’
The genius behind this concept is that for product development, you’re better off picking a cheap-o technology (‘withered’) and using it in a new way (‘lateral’) rather than going for the predictable, cutting-edge next-step.

But my worry was more about them changing their business model once they get big enough.

Nintendo@lemmy.world•What are you playing this weekend? 2025-03-07English
2·9 months agoI’m playing “tinker with my devices”, but if I get any real game time it’ll probably be Balatro or maybe Luma Island.
I’ve been thinking about digging out my hacked Wii U to play Art of Balance though.

552·9 months agoI’ve been using Kagi for about a month now, and I think I’m gonna stick with it. Paying with dollars instead of data/attention feels more healthy for everyone involved.
(Fully realizing, of course, that there’s nothing stopping them from doing both, and that’s why we need better laws. Voting with your wallet will never be a complete solution… but it is something I can do right now.)

Nintendo@lemmy.world•Nintendo Asks Wii U Owners To Refrain From Using "Unauthorised" Online ServicesEnglish
19·11 months agoBased on some similar experience: low millions per year.
Skeleton crew of devs+ITS to keep the lights on, software licensing, hardware costs, customer support, financial oversight, legal oversight and occasional compliance efforts.
Probably a good amount of technical and organizational friction involved, too, for whatever services, knowledge bases, and corporate policies were shared between the Wii U and Switch.
It seems stupid when you compare it to the fact that Pretendo probably pays about 1% as much, but that’s just how businesses work.

MF was about to step down anyway but still didn’t take a swing at ICE?
