A politician having a reputation for corruption and self-dealing is one of the few things that voters uniformly don’t like, and will actually act on at the polls.
I would have agreed with you before Trump. The power of conservative in-group solidarity is powerful, especially when multiplied by media support.

I remember in college sort of independently coming up with the idea (there’d be a large pool of representatives, to make bribery harder. And I think we had an idea of like some of them their votes secretly won’t count at the end, so your bribe might not even count)
Then one of my friends linked me to the wiki page and I was like “oh”
I despise interfaces that try to be “friendly” by showing relative times. It’s not helpful. It’s counter productive. If you tell me it was at 08:45 I can look at what time it is now and fucking figure it out. Not so if you say “20 minutes ago”
And then some of them have fucking javascript to update the text. Fucking insanity.
Sometimes I think we should get rid of 3/4ths of the “product people”, but then wi the just engineering websites would just be like plain text and the occasional still photo. Which, honestly, sounds okay.

That is, of course, if you have properly trained drivers and enforced rules.
We don’t and will not in our life time. So for practical purposes, they do not work.
I would recommend the invite tracking. Keep track of who invites bad actors, even higher order. If your friend’s friends suck, that should reflect a little on you. If no one has vouched for you, then you’re less trusted.
Delete your Facebook accounts. (Probably preaching to the choir here, but still)

We should break google up and bury the current leadership in a deep hole somewhere.
People that park in bike lanes should lose their license and car. Selfish and hazardous behavior.
Most people don’t give a shit about anything abstract or remote. There’s tons of users still on Twitter, Instagram, etc.
Well, yes, “why don’t you care about things?” is a timeless problem. People don’t like to see beyond the immediate. Probably because in pre-history, the creatures that focused on right now did better than the ones who went “but if we keep cutting down the trees, eventually it’s going to cause problems.”
Well, now we have many problems, and our brains have not advanced.
It’s one of those self fueling problems. Businesses post on Instagram because people go there, and people go there in part because that’s where they found out about businesses doing stuff.
Better options are possible, but the big money is backing this hell. Less money to be made from RSS feeds , web rings, and email newsletters.
I don’t use any social media other than this. I find out about bands I like playing from their email lists or bandsintown. I’m on a couple “things happening in the city” email newsletters. It doesn’t demand my attention.
I really would like to somehow convince more people to adopt the idea that, like, Facebook and friends are run by bad people and you can choose not to use their products. Just stop. Find another way. Be uncomfortable for a little while.
But people aren’t up to the challenge.
Break up Google, Facebook, and the other big platforms that let disinformation run rampant.
Hold decision makers at those organizations personally accountable.
There was someone a while ago who was trying to get a web ring going for like nerd stuff. They said so many of their friends and people they talked to loved the idea, but no one made a site of their own.
I posted it in a local community group, and everyone said the same thing.
I thought about getting one but then I got laid off from my good paying job. Then they made it expensive with expensive games. So, no.
If capital wants us to spend money they need to pay us more first.
Most of the people don’t want to be convinced. They come adamant that they won’t change their opinion
