  • Kinda, but also I checked the original announcement - they promised 5 years of software and hardware support. And they had spares for 7 years as they just stopped selling them like 3 weeks ago. For a phone they stopped selling in 2022 (after it launched in 2019). IMHO that’s a fair support time. Mind you - again that was 7 years ago when a 5 year software support was still groundbreaking as far as I recall.

    I’d love it if devices lasted even longer. But with the current smartphone world I’m more than willing to hand it to FP - it’s been ‘fair’.



  • Fairphone already does pretty much what you want - keep spares available for an insane time. They don’t have spares for the 3/3+ anymore but for the 4 which was released like 5 years ago.

    And we don’t know why the 6+ exists yet, it could be a simple stupid reason like Qualcomm deciding they don’t want to produce the old SoC for as long anymore.

    Personally the fact that we can even get what is basically ‘just’ a mainboard upgrade for a smartphone does speak for Fairphone IMHO
