From what I’ve gleaned online so far (and I am not claiming this is a holistic overview, just the broadest scope that I’ve been able to gather up to this point):

• Fedorov was a key player in the recent aggressive modernization and drone-forward strategy and tactics the UAF are now using
• Fedorov’s background isn’t military - it’s business and politics
• Fedorov had been having conflicts with both military and political leadership, including but not limited to Zelenskyy and the UAF general staff
• some have raised potential corruption charges/issues against Fedorov (the veracity of which is currently unclear)
• there have been some procurement issues in some important areas (e.g. artillery ammunition) that it seems Fedorov has failed/been unable to address.

Frankly, I’m adopting a “wait and see” approach - there’s clearly a lot more going on behind the scenes than laypersons are aware of.

The media circus around this seems, to me, to be just that: the media latching onto a (high-level) personnel change and sensationalizing it without getting the entire story and all the details. And I doubt all the details are going to be revealed quickly, since, you know, some of the details are strategic in nature, and Ukraine is still actively fighting a war, and they don’t want to just broadcast to Russia (amongst others) about where exactly their logistics issues and bottlenecks and failures are.

It’s more than that. There are a LOT of components in there that aren’t made in Russia, and cannot be made in Russia because they don’t have the ability and infrastructure to manufacture them. Things like high precision bearings, and many of the control systems, amongst others. This isn’t just “the refineries are out”. This is also “the refineries cannot be repaired to full capacity, let alone in a reasonable amount of time”.

And stuff like this is basically impossible to harden, so assuming Ukraine has figured out a reasonably reliable way to route munitions to that area (and similar satellite C2 nexuses elsewhere), they can effectively deny Russia the ability to use much of their space-based assets!

The blindingly obvious subtext to this, especially in the context of how badly and visibly strategic infrastructure in Moscow got whacked yesterday, is “we can abso-fucking-lutely take what you think you can dish out, and still hand your ass to you on a platter, Luka-chan”. This may be seen by many as an escalation, but aiding and abetting Russia in coordinating attacks on civilian residential buildings was an escalation in the first place; this is actually just a proportionate response.

I feel like targeting mining operations in occupied territories is a very logical next step for Ukraine to take. Not as economically impactful as blasting petrochemical production in Russia, but it would increase the cost to Russia and China of the outright theft of their natural resources to potentially unsustainable levels of unprofitability and destroyed capital expenditure on heavy equipment.
