And furries! 🐺

And furries! 🐺

I mean, over in Twitterlike fedi it’s called “the fediverse” there, too!

Well, for one thing, the people in Upper Elbonia or wherever wouldn’t just file away your entire comment history for the slop machine.

/r/lemmysniper? hehe

Why not just, not try to scale a platform, then? Not everything needs to Scale™.
The twitterside of the fediverse (Mastodon and suchlike) do perfectly fine with 100% real moderation by actual people. I’m honestly kind of surprised people are trying to run the redditside of the fediverse totally differently.

Just because you technically CAN doesn’t mean you SHOULD. Respecting other people (by, say, not feeding all their posts directly to the slop machine, and not building scrapers) is kind of a key point of society.
There’s a difference between “out there” and “feel free to scrape and/or use for AI training”.
There may not be /legal/ obligations, but there absolutely are /social/ ones.

Oh fucking YIKES.
Do NOT send our post history straight to OpenAI, that’s just … extremely gross.
Sure, it’s “public”, but that doesn’t mean feeding it directly to the slop machine is okay.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I doubt there’s any sort of IPO involved, and I don’t think he’s malicious, he just looks at the big tech stuff and goes “I want Mastodon to be like that!” without really giving much thought to why it’s not.
“he doesn’t want us to have nice things” was kinda facetious, a “this is why we can’t have nice things” type thing. :3

Gargron (the Masto lead dev)'s been trying to kill it because he doesn’t want us to have nice things.

That’s a really good way to end up with fake meaningless “alt text” that’s only put there to get around the restrictions.
Caring about meaningful image descriptions is a cultural thing.

If they GIVE you their legal name, publishing it isn’t doxing. That’s what they’re already known as.
If they DON’T give you their legal name though? Yeah, then that’s doxing.
It’s not quite as serious as publishing their address or stuff like that, but it’s still pretty serious and not cool.
