Why do you think it’s bad? What analogy would you use instead?

Comparing it to email highlights the decentralized nature vs things like Facebook or Twitter where the whole service is one website. It’s not a perfect analogy, but …that’s why it’s just an analogy.

There’s a tradeoff though. I used to take the bus to work. 20-25 minute drive, about 45-50 by bus with 1 transfer. I would bring a book and turn commute time into reading time. It really made it worth the extra time.

I do think there’s a limit. Double the time is fine, given that you can relax. More than double starts to feel like too much of a time sink.

Personally, I think you just proved their point. Anything they know from talking to people who know things is immediately dismissed with “oh, it’s anecdotal at best”.

Vaccines are a good example here. Handwashing is another. We’ve had empirical proof on the latter since the 1850s, but it’s STILL super hit or miss whether people will bother :(
