I grew up kinda everywhere in the US. Was born in the South, lived on the east coast for a bit, then in one of the northern states that really supported the Confederacy, then in one of the big urban centers of the U.S. I mostly try to suppress the more Southern parts to get a very generic American intellectual accent, but my real heritage slips out when I throw out a y’all’d’ve.

Just to play Devil’s Advocate, since I am a huge fan of Filoni’s Clone Wars series, Clanker feels the most weird because it was created to be used as a slur in the same way the Allied forces had slurs for Germans and Japanese in WW2. I can understand why some people might have moral grounds against using what is ultimately a proxy of real life slurs, especially if they were ever a recipient of that kinda discrimination. Sure, it’s a fantasy, and I think from a standpoint of “The Republic is experiencing moral decay” it’s interesting for the story, but it was always a lil fucked up that the kids show thought hurling slurs was such a fundamental part of war that they needed to invent a new one. It’d probably be better if we didn’t teach children that.

It’s also kinda a weird slur to use against AI. The droids are called clankers because they clank, it’s like an onomotopeia. LLMs don’t clank at all.

Idk, seems about a fifth of them can’t recognize fascism when it comes home.

I didn’t wanna watch it live because I don’t want to support Zionists, I’m planning on watching clips of the good performances today.

I know they were stealing them from Ukraine though. If you told me the Russians were dumb and desperate enough to parade around stolen washing machines as “spoils of war,” it wouldn’t sound completely implausible.

I think it’s just blowing my mind that somebody could watch these clips and go “oh yeah, that’s a real strong country” instead of bursting out laughing at each incredibly stupid moment. I thought their whole thing was being good at propoganda!
