Lemmy is a link aggregator. Reddit is as well. Sure, Reddit has started to generate a lot more OC over the last decade, but it took over a decade for that to pick up momentum and gain millions of active users. I don’t want a mindless cesspool of half-assed OC. I mostly just want an easy one-stop-shop for news, memes, and discussions.

Maybe I poorly worded my response. I wasn’t defending the other comment, as I haven’t looked into the supposed rumble feature causing overheating for the Switch 2. I was just stating that I thought it odd to automatically give a company the benefit of doubt, especially a company like Nintendo.
And for the record, there have been reports with the joycon 1s having overheating issues that were resolved when users disconnected the rumble actuator from functioning. So, I guess, take that however way you want to.
And you defending Nintendo as shipping a not-flawed product is on equally unsound footing. The Switch 1’s joycon drift issue is still present to this day, despite the class action lawsuits against them regarding the issue. Nintendo at least silently conceded to the problem by offering free repairs for it, despite it taking years for them to do so.

Pretty sure the UK literally endured the same amount of stress and terror as Ukraine, given that the Germans dropped tens of thousands of bombs on their major cities for years.
Was that the Hawaiian season? I don’t remember it really hitting that hard in terms of being sad, but it’s been awhile since watching it. Newest season is great so far, though.

You’re vastly downplaying the problem. There’s a reason a class action lawsuit went forward with tons of evidence backing up that it wasn’t simply the user’s error in properly maintaining the joycon. I’ve bought a joycon and had it started drifting within weeks before, even before I had kids. The sticks were just poorly designed, simple as that.
Thanks for the tip in your edit. I had 4 pairs of official joycons drift, I eventually just bought a pair of 3rd party ones to keep mounted on it and those have been working fine for over 3 years now. I still have the official joycons, actually had 2 of them serviced and repaired by Nintendo after that class action lawsuit (Nintendo said they’d repair any drifting joycon for free regardless if they’re out of warranty).
And I used it since ~2007. Sure, I’ll concede that OC existed back then, but expectations/standards were far lower. Simply starting topics or a meme template that hadn’t been done before were fine, often times even hailed. Two broken arms, jollyrancher, coconut, whatever other gross ass viral thing weren’t even pictures/videos, they were comments and/or text posts. They became Reddit legends/mythos/lore, regardless.
Anyway, that type of OC isn’t going to invigorate the masses like it used to. Any of those stories nowadays would be met with heavy cynicism/skepticism (rightfully so, I might add). I guess my point is, Lemmy has only been somewhat known for a couple of years. It takes a lot of time to build momentum. Reddit continues to enshittify ever further, just like Digg did. Times are different now, there’s a fuckton of competition in this type of social media format. What will make it successful is hard to say for certainty. I think sticking to link aggregation and topical discussions is a good start.
