Sludgehammer@lemmy.worldto Nintendo@lemmy.world•Switch 2 price is a "strategic balancing act," and there's a reason why Japan is getting a separate model that's $110 cheaper than the US' $450 console, analysts suggestEnglish91·3 months agoUnfortunately, unless the price drops, I’m probably not getting one. I can’t justify spending $530 dollars (console plus a game) on a console. While Mario Kart World looks fun, it’s probably not half a grands worth of fun.
I mean it’s not like I’m hurting for entertainment, thanks to various online giveaways I have a huge backlog of games that I’ve never played, as well as a homebrewed 3DS and Wii.

Sludgehammer@lemmy.worldto Data is Beautiful@mander.xyz•The falling price of diamondsEnglish19·5 months agoThe day I don’t have to hear about Blood <insert gemstone here> ever again will truly be a blessed day. Fuck all the artificially inflated minerals no matter what their compositions.
Sludgehammer@lemmy.worldto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•A major internet and mobile blackout in Russia has left millions disconnected, with platforms like Google, Discord, and Twitch offline, and widespread mobile operator outages.English12·6 months agoThe reasons for today’s large-scale failure in the RuNet are definitely not connected with any exercises on the “sovereignization” of the Internet.
Yeah… that statement makes me a little suspicious.

Sludgehammer@lemmy.worldto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•A couple hundred North Korean troops killed, wounded in battles with Ukrainian forcesEnglish2·7 months agoAnd a large amount of money and grain.
Sludgehammer@lemmy.worldto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Opinion: Russia's alliance of convenience with China is a ticking time bombEnglish10·7 months agoI’m honestly surprised that things between Russia and China have remained cordial for this long. Russia is obviously over-extended and Xi could be strong-arming or flat out invading bits of Russia at this point.
Sludgehammer@lemmy.worldto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•North Korea received anti-aircraft missiles, oil from Russia in exchange for troops, reports sayEnglish7·7 months agoI’ve said this before but this has been the deal of the century for North Korea. Food, technology, weapons, money, all for some junky antique Cold War equipment and fielding what are probably their worst soldiers.
Sludgehammer@lemmy.worldto TechTakes@awful.systems•HarperCollins offers $2,500 to feed a book to AI, some authors still not keenEnglish4·8 months agoEven assuming they have a AI detection program, I could probably shit out a 20-ish page “book” in under a week. The LLM could “learn” from the grammar free typo riddled stream of conscious book about how when you think about it trees are really living plumbing, and I get $2.5k
Sludgehammer@lemmy.worldto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•"This is the kind of crap the Koreans send. Only 1 shell out of 5 fires" - Russian soldiers show how they wash grease and rust off 82 mm mortar shells.English114·8 months agoIt really says something about the state of the Russian military that they have to buy up the trash that’s too crappy for North Korea’s army.
Sludgehammer@lemmy.worldto Mycology@mander.xyz•Mycelium has a grain preference, it seems. (Brown rice, Popcorn mix)English0·2 years agoNot really into mushroom growing, but my guess is that since popcorn has a thick hull (which is why it pops when heated) it offers more of a barrier to the growing mycelium. I bet if the corn were cracked or flaked beforehand the fungus would be much more inclined to grow on the popcorn.
When you think about it, it’s a very suspiciously crap strategy.
I mean, you need to successfully fly a drone carrying a booby trapped med kit in into enemy territory, drop the kit somewhere high traffic, then just hope some Russian soldier notices it and opens it. That’s a lot of effort with a lot of things that can go wrong just to commit a war crime against one Russian soldier. Just loading up a drone with a bomb or a landmine seems like it’d be a more successful of a strategy, a hell of a lot less work and it’s not a war crime.
