You don’t have to prepare targets, the soldiers get training, you may shoot down a helicopter or scare some RuSSians and have just the cost of a couple of 50cal bullets. All around win in my book. Plus you’d be based as fuck if you actually shoot one down and they couldn’t even argue it was a mistake, because the helicopter would have to be fairly close to be able to hit it
