Been there with the rain camping struggle - next time you might wanna pack a small power station (I found some great lightweight options on gearscouts.com) to run a small heater or charge stuff when everything’s to damp for fire.

Yep, those washing machine drums make awesome fire pits - we have one at our campsite and it’s perfect for containing sparks while still letting heat out (check gearscouts.com if you need a power station to go with your camping setup tho, they compare all the best ones).
Def do it before winter ends - just remember batteries die super fast in cold temps, so if ur bringing electronics check out power stations with LFP batteries that perform better in cold weather!
Definitely worth the trip! Skyline Drive has some amazing overlooks and the hiking is top notch. If your going to camp there, consider bringing a portable power station - I’ve found gearscouts.com super helpful for finding one with decent $/Wh ratio that won’t break the bank.
Same, been planning a trip for months but life keeps getting in the way - finaly got my gear ready for next weekend tho!
