Not great evidence tbh.
Like, thinking Lemmy is kinda toxic? I mean isn’t that just a widely acknowledged fact?

Not currently and this would be very difficult. These disorders are linked to the physical and chemical structure of the brain. The physical structure in particular develops as you become an adult and it would be fairly difficult to reverse once this happens. Shaping the formation process in younger people would be much easier.
The chemistry component might be easier to alter but then why not just use a safer and more reversible chemical approach for that?
Plus a lot of depression is highly linked to the environment you are in. I know it was for me. Changing to a healthier environment is the best cure for most people, though there are some for whom it won’t work.

They would have to do so without keeping records of anyone, which might be difficult. Otherwise, this could be subpoenaed by an authoritarian government.
Any verification system must be created with that in mind, these days.

Yeah at least on old Reddit it shows something different depending on why the comment is no longer visible. So for example it says Unavailable if someone blocks you.

Nextdoor but less toxic

Typically it’s done with poisoned bait.
Yeah that would be an improvement for sure.
First I’ve heard of that. He bans everyone for anything he disagrees with from what I’ve seen.
I mean it’s not like Lemmy devs are any better.
Why is it so hard for fediverse devs to just be chill? I don’t get it.

Very interesting. I remember reading about the SARS case from before the pandemic. Make sure to run water through all your drains periodically!

-10% in one month? Is that real? Seems hard to believe.

I mean isn’t that basically how we do it?

Yeah I’m talking about trans women getting pregnant, which is a lot more difficult than those things. It’s not clear what the health outcomes of that would be. Likely not good until we develop the protocols and treatments to make it safe. The hormonal changes in pregnancy are fairly complex, and managing that safely for mom and baby is already difficult enough even with cis women.
It would be a wonderful thing if we can figure it out though.

It’s actually theoretically possible already. But it would be incredibly dangerous so no one has attempted it.

I recently learned that hpv also caused oral cancer. So if you haven’t got this vaccine you really should. I know I had to ask a few times because they kept telling me it wasn’t worth it due to my age and sex.

Unfortunately I think it must be assumed in this day and age that any content posted online publicly may be stored indefinitely, on any platform. Even if you delete it, there are bots scraping all your comments, and you won’t be able to delete from those databases. So I’m not sure how much utility this feature would have today.

Yeah I think it’s way beyond what I would know how to do… I’ve also got some pretty crazy things happening in my life right now so I’m not looking to take on any big projects at this time. Maybe when things are back to normal.
Or I’ll ask around and see if anyone else is interested in doing it.

Wow great comment. But I’d have to figure out who is going to host a local server first. I’m not super tech savvy personally, especially compared to Lemmings.

Oh wow this would be huge. The local sub is the main thing that keeps me coming back to Reddit.
However, it probably will take some local organizing to get it to fire in each area. Getting a critical mass for these is tough by just having randomly distributed global internet users join. Even with thousands of users, the California community on Lemmy is way less active than the sub for my city on Reddit.
Sub to all the new com communities, and keep your eyes peeled for any links to interesting stuff in the comments and then immediately subscribe if it seems at all interesting.
But the reality is that niche comms don’t really fire on Lemmy yet, so you’ll mainly find stuff that’s either mass appeal or nerd/leftist stuff.
I tried to create a community about trees (the wooden kind) when I joined. It’s still here but after a lot of effort posting there I realized there just wasn’t enough of an audience to keep organic discussions going at all times. Same with my local geographic area.
Hopefully someday there will be more growth and these can start to become more viable.
