There is already a not-hidden field presented when making a post to fill in alt-text on Lemmy, but I wonder how many users know its purpose. It assumes everyone knows what it is. It would be helpful if it had a short explination next to the input field, with a link to a larger explination and why it should be used.

And for images that are just screenshots of tweets or are otherwise just text, maybe some kind of image to text process can be done automatically to fill the alt-text out. 🤷‍♂️

Probably because most people aren’t eating shit like swordfish, shark, or giant mackerel regularly enough to be worried about it. The kinda fish most people eat daily has very little, if any, mercury. A lot of it is farmed and not caught wild where mercury is a problem.

I think the real problem with SETI is its passive nature. It is merely looking for signals that may be from extraterrestrial intelligences passively.

I quite like the idea of Active SETI where we would be sending our own signal and looking for a reply. Of course either way would also have the problem of time. It would take a while to receive a signal. So long that its entirely possible by the time anyone got it, the people that sent it are already gone.
