  • But that name has the same problem as “defund the police.” People just see the title and make their conclusions from it without looking inside and thinking about it too much. Though I gotta say, the reddit fuckcars was a bit unhinged at times, a few times I visited that place, they were nearly demanding lynching of people who happened to own a car. But thats also partly the fault of reddit being a bit mad at times.

Aanyways, the past couple years, as I’ve aged 200 years, I’ve come to the conclusion that going to extremes with anything is really unhealthy for you. Like… yes, go vegan. But don’t spit on someone if they eat a sausage. Use bicycles and public trans, but don’t throw milkshakes on a guy driving his Yaris. Make sure you don’t litter, but don’t push a guy under a bus because they accidentally dropped a candy wrapper. Don’t waste food, but also don’t force someone to eat moldy food just because they forgot grandmas gravy in the fridge for 3 months.

I try to stay away from these fuckXYZ communities. They always start as a funny pretend-extreme way, but they pretty much always end up dropping the pretense and become actually toxic. Full disclosure, I haven’t checked the lemmy fuckcars, they are probably nice and chill people.

  • believe it or not, vast majority of people already do not know how to properly do that and dentists do not teach us

Well thats another thing, that I think is the problem. It seems to me that people these days expect others to teach their kids how to do things. I don’t think dentists should be the ones who teach people how to brush their teeth, it should be the parents. I read recently that kindergarten kids not being potty trained by their parents is becoming a massive problem, I guess the parents expect that to happen in the kindergarten as well. Same goes with discipline and basic behavior. Apparently school teachers have noticed a major change in kids’ ability to behave properly. This constant coddling and “theres an app for that” is going to ruin everything.

My backup is just actually do things intentionally. I don’t care if It is slow, I have time, why would I rush things. I guess I am trying to enjoy the journey rather than focus on goals and stuff.

This is my only hope. I don’t know if its just the bubble I’m in, but I’ve noticed more and more people going back to doing things the “old” or “hard” way. Most of it is people ditching social media, reddit and whatnot and replacing them with IRC, Lemmy etc. Then theres also the whole old internet revival thing, neocities.org, kagi.com/smallweb/ etc. But theres also a whole bunch of people who are moving away from the city and live more frugally.

Obviously its a small fraction of the population, but who knows, maybe it will grow into something bigger. At the moment I think theres going to be a split, at least online, with people who refuse to use the shiny new software and services and will stick to IRC and other, simpler things.

This turned into a ramble, I’ll stop while its still coherent on some level

  • Waterfox was one of the browsers I was considering about 2 months ago, when I was looking to change from Firefox, after 26 years of use.

I ended up with LibreWolf. Seems to have been the correct choice. Once Kagi gets Orion out in a non-flatpak thing, I’ll check it out and perhaps change to that.

Edit: though this decision by Waterfox doesn’t seem to be too horrible. Just seems a bit weird to have it built in but off by default?

Edit2: Ah, its just the text based ad(s) on startpage that will be enabled by default. If I understood correctly.
