I want to be a good steward of Lemmy and do what I can to help grow the communities I’m interested in.

Fortunately, the bicycling community seems to have a solid base already. There are usually posts every week, and a fair number of them generate some good discussion. I’d like to help encourage more of that by posting things people here actually find useful or interesting.

The problem is that “bicycling” covers a pretty huge range of topics. News, racing and performance, training questions, equipment, maintenance, infrastructure, commuting, photos, personal stories—the list goes on.

So rather than guessing, I figured I’d just ask:

Why did you join the bicycling community on Lemmy?

When you open your feed, what kinds of bicycling posts are you actually hoping to see? What gets you to stop scrolling, read the comments, or join the conversation?

I’m curious what people here would like to see more of.

I’m interested in vintage and new steel bikes, DIY mechanics and customisation. I want to read about rim brakes and silver parts. The only competitive stuff (if it can be called competitive) I’m interested in is Randonneuring. I also like bikepacking, camping and touring. Urban riding on single speeds and fixed gear bikes is always cool, too. Photos of nice bikes and adventures help to introduce topics and start conversations IMO. Hope that helps.

I personally don’t like communities where the posts are always links and/or news. I like a community where people share photos, stories or ask questions.

I tend to agree, but it also depends on the community. For instance, I appreciate seeing news in the procycling community because it keeps me up to date and I can see some interesting takes on it.

It seems that @bicycling is more about the enjoyment and participation of the activity, so less useful to have news or articles.

From this community, I hope for anything bike related people want to post. I also subscribe to @bikewrench and @procycling though so those topics should stay in those communities.

Like @clippy said, I always prefer posts made by people versus bots and I want to read what you think about the post you just made too.
