I used to curate science breakthroughs using a variety of rss feeds. This was different than just posting new science news, I looked for the real breakthroughs. However I don’t have the time or energy or tools to manage a community like this today, but I would subscribe and contribute occasionally to one…maybe someone else out there wants to start one?
I love this idea conceptually, but the biggest problem is that unless you really know what you’re talking about (and are a multi-domain expert), how the hell do you separate the true breakthroughs from all of the breathless media hype?
It did take some effort to separate the media hype from the real breakthroughs. At the time I was doing it, there were some real breakthroughs in medical, energy, etc, that were obvious breakthroughs- often they would be featured on places like Quanta Magazine as a video: https://www.youtube.com/@QuantaScienceChannel
Could this maybe be a flair for specific posts on !science@mander.xyz ?
