Unless it was a hugely popular community with years and years of content posted to it, not just text but videos and photos etc, the server space some text posts and usernames take up is a rounding error.
Honestly, posts and users don’t take that much space on disk, especially relative to images. I rarely bother to clean abandoned communities on my instance.
Why would they?
I think abandoned communities just spend server space, right? This and unused accounts.
