Orenburg Mayor Albert Yumadilov said he had planned to hire North Koreans as street cleaners but that they would not work for the wages the city can offer.
“As far as I know, workers from North Korea won’t come for 55,000 rubles. Wages there are two to three times higher. Sure, their efficiency is higher too — they work like robots. I’ve seen it with my own eyes; over there, they really are robots… But we just can’t afford the wages,” Yumadilov said, as quoted by the Orenburg city portal 1743.ru.

Meanwhile, Senegalese nationals are working in the city’s housing and utilities sector, Yumadilov said. The first 10 arrived in April. Thirty-one Senegalese now sweep the streets of Orenburg, and four more are due soon. Yumadilov praised the quality and productivity of their work.

If you’re Senegalese and you go work in Russia, you’re fucking suicidal. I’m white but not looking one bit Slavic and I didn’t feel safe in certain parts of Moscow.
I get your point and fully agree in principal, and my knowledge about Senegal is next to zero. The point I want to make is that many of these workers are facing harsh economic conditions at home with little prospects, and they are lured by false promises. But that’s just my opinion based on many reports I’ve read and a couple of first-hand reports by people in my wider environment who work for NGOs the field. But my experience with this stuff is zero, so I may be mistaken.
My knowledge of Senegal is equally sketchy. But my knowledge of Russians is a bit more complete, and the one thing I know for a fact is that people of the color typically sported by Senegalese folks are in non-trivial risk of dying violently in Russia.
I guess those leaving Senegal for Russia don’t know that, otherwise I guarantee you no amount of economic hardship in their home country would push them into that deadly trap.
