After 1692, a massive earthquake and tsunami destroyed the town, and it never really recovered its former position after that.

Had a friend from Jamaica (Kingston), a group of us went to visit him and one day he took us to visit Port Royal, telling us it used to be the capital before a huge earthquake.

We were strolling down the high street and the ground started to shake. And kept shaking and shaking and shaking.

One of the strongest earthquakes to hit Jamaica in years, but fortunately (wisely) practically all the buildings in Port Royal were single-story.

But when we got back to his place in Kingston, the house was cracked and the koi dead because all the water had drained from their pond.
