I agree, I actually feel like it would’ve been better if the creation of communities was limited only to admins for the first couple of years of Lemmy. I believe that’s how Reddit started out, with very few communities. Lots of Reddit Alternatives start like this too.
I wish there was a good way to clean up the old dead communities and migrate their posts and subscribers to alternative communities.
The inverse (using Lemmy to follow NodeBB boards) seems to work fine, but I haven’t been able to find any that interest me
Having attempted to use Lemmy communities via NodeBB, it’s a pain. No surprise we rarely see posts or comments from NodeBB users.

Yes exactly this. When you post something you should be ready to engage with the comments
We have posts already. Even if we literally did not have any existing posts, optimizing for maximum comments per post means you make at most one post per community per day.
And most importantly you should be eager to reply to comments in your posts, if you posted it then it would be something you’re interested in.
Honestly looking at your profile, you don’t do too bad. Maybe just slow it down slightly and allow the posts to get saturated with comments, post about the things that you’re most interested in, and give it a personal touch so you’re not just a bot.
And stop using AI for comments lol, Lemmy hates AI
Lemmy does not need more posts, it needs more comments. It needs the personal touch of people manually reading and responding to the posts with their own personality.
If we wanted more posts we would just be using RSS feeds, we’re all here for the comments. And you making many posts dilutes the commentators so that most posts end up with 0 comments. Posting needs to be properly paced to ensure maximum comments per post. And real human comments, not AI or copy pasted.
No I agree. The Fediverse needs more algorithm driven frontends for people who want that. The only one I know of is for Lemmy not Mastodon

This is a great idea. I’m never going to open a match thread, but if I see a highlight clip I’ll probably watch it. Keep the spam down and it’ll grow organically.

I try to keep !starcraft@lemmy.world posted with big tournaments, and !speedrun@sh.itjust.works but I know that doesn’t count as esports lol

Yes, but there’s no ability to search for users yet. So I guess you have to tag them or message them before you can follow them, or maybe if they follow you first
I think if they focus on interop with other platforms, like using hashtags for regional posts, it could work

Maybe lemmy.world would have been less dominant if people had to use/start other instances to create communities.
Yeah that PieFed feature is good, maybe if Lemmy supports it then people could start deleting old communities. Just gotta make sure the moves federate properly.
